Welcome to 2023! Even though the heart of winter is still upon us, the days are starting to get a little longer (even if the sun still sets before 5pm) which means it’s time to look forward to new gear for the Spring!
Spring ‘23 is bringing complete technical overhauls, meaningful updates to existing products, and products meant to enhance your comfort in the outdoors. Use one of the links below to check out what’s in store from each brand.
SCARPA | Osprey | Therm-a-rest | MSR | NorrØna
SCARPA
From SCARPA’s humble beginnings in northern Italy to their expansive current line of fine-tuned footwear for skiers, climbers, hikers, and runners, SCARPA has spent the last 80+ years dedicated to creating innovative and well-crafted mountain footwear. This dedication to innovation continues for 2023 with new variations of popular climbing and trail running shoes.
Vapor S
Offered in Men’s and Women’s options, the new Vapor S climbing shoes are powerful, flexible, and offer unwavering sensitivity and precision. Building off SCARPA’s best-selling Vapor fit, the S shoes are a slipper-style shoe featuring the innovative NANO strap; a low-profile closure system to secure the foot better during heel hooks while being thin enough that it won’t be snagged in thin cracks and crevices.
Generator
Replacing the tried-and-true Maestro Mid Eco is no small feat, but the Generator Mid is up to the task. Over 2 years of research and development dedicated to creating the ultimate trad climbing shoe have resulted in the Generator Mid. While on the surface it looks similar to the old Maestro, the Generator features a new last with a lower profile to be even better when crack climbing, all while providing more comfort on big walls and multi-pitch adventures. The women’s-specific Generator is set to release in Fall 2023.
Rush 2 gtx series
Available in Men’s, Women’s, Low, and Mid height, the updated Rush 2 GTX trail shoes might be the last shoe you need. Designed to provide the agility and comfort of a trail running shoe and the support and protection of a hiking boot, the Rush 2 GTX are the perfect choice for a variety of trail pursuits. Made with lightweight, breathable, and recycled uppers, they also feature a DTS insert around the heel and arch to provide support and stability no matter how rocky the terrain is.
Ribelle Run Xt
Designed to be durable and versatile, the Ribelle Run XT is intended for rugged terrain when extra support and protection is needed. A full perimeter rand inspired by SCARPA climbing shoes offers protection and support around the entire foot, while an extended toe bumper protects you where you need it most.
Osprey
Almost 50 years of dedication to fit and function have led to new innovations for Osprey in 2023. Ultralight is the name of the game with lighter options of both the Atmos/Aura and Exos/Eja packs, while some of Osprey’s best-sellers receive more fit options for everyone.
Atmos | Aura LT
Designed with technical backpackers in mind, the new Atmos and Aura AG LT deliver the same high level of comfort as their original counterpart and a thoughtfully simple feature-set. This lightweight, streamlined build also reduces weight by about 10% when compared to the original Atmos and Aura AG. The new LT packs still provide the comfortable Antigravity suspension system and fit-on-the-fly hipbelt for comfort when spending long days on the trail.
Exos | Eja Pro
For the gram counters out there, the new Exos and Eja Pro packs shave a pound of weight from the already ultralight Exos and Eja. This was achieved by switching fabrics and further refining the harness, backpanel, and hipbelt to remove anything that wasn’t necessary, while still maintaining the trusted Osprey fit and comfort.
Extended fit Packs
While not new packs, there are new Extended Fit (EF) size options available in the Osprey lineup. The next logical step towards getting more people outside is providing gear has a more inclusive fit. Available in Aether/Ariel 65, Volt/Viva 65, Talon 22, Tempest 20, and Sportlite 25, the Extended Fit options have custom-made hipbelts and shoulder straps for people with wider hips and broader shoulders.
Updated accessories
Travel and Outdoor accessories have received a major overhaul for 2023. All smaller travel accessories like toiletry bags, ultralight stuff packs, and packing cubes have been updated with sustainable, recycled, and PFC-free fabrics. In addition, they also received a variety of updates to zipper locations, straps, and buckles to provide even greater functionality. Meanwhile, the Hydraulics line has been updated with new sliders, handles, and bite valves. Osprey has also introduced a new Hydraulics HD line that’s perfect for hauling up to 4L of water at basecamp.
Therm-a-Rest
When you spend over 50 years trying to create the best night of sleep in the backcountry, innovation never rests (pun very intended). That’s why 2023 is highlighted by Therm-a-Rest updating their best-selling pads and taking them to the NeXT level.
NXT Pads
The all-new XTherm and XLite NXT sleeping pads are the next generation of the tried-and-true favorites. Both series are thicker than the previous versions, now at 3-inches, are warmer with R-values of 7.3 and 4.5, and weigh the same as the previous generation. All this was accomplished while also reducing the noise produced the pads by 60%.
MSR
At MSR, unruly dreaming isn’t exclusively for those spending weeks in the backcountry or those summitting the highest peaks, that’s why in 2023 they are introducing a new car/frontcountry tent.
Habiscape tents
Designed for adventurous families and group camping, the new Habiscape tents from MSR are an ideal blend of performance, space, and features. Available in 4- or 6-person versions with ample floor space, they also feature a bug-proof Pass-Thru pocket for essentials, a minimum of 73 inches of headroom, and a convertible rainfly that can be used as a vestibule or a sunshade.
Norrøna
Norrøna’s wide range of climbing, touring, skiing, and mountain biking apparel is expanding again in 2023, with the addition of their first trail running line and a new multi-purpose midlayer.
Falketind power grid hood
The new falketind Power Grid from Norrøna is the most technically functional mid layer fleece they make. Ideal for warmth during high-output activities, ranging from hiking to mountain biking to touring. The Polartec Power grid fabric provides stretch, quick drying, and a great warmth to weigh ratio, making it perfect for any adventure.
Senja Collection
Inspired by the diverse terrains and energizing beauty of the island of Senja in Norway, the senja trail running collection was created to work for all the unique pathways found in nature. This collection features timeless silhouettes and minimal feature sets to allow runners to focus on the nature around them. These garments are easily packable, weather protective, and have exceptional moisture management. Created as a head-to-toe trail running collection, all senja pieces are simple and functional enough to be used for any high-output activity.
