New Gear | Osprey Firn | Fall 2024
Built for steep and fast ascents, late-season slush-tracks and pre-work up-and-downs, the Firn is the ideal companion for the skimo athlete who quickly transitions between skinning, scrambling and descending. With a flexible, snowshedding backpanel that moves rapidly with the body and a flexible, vest-style fit that remains stable enough to support touring skis and a full touring load, this lightweight yet durable pack was made for more than pristine backcountry slopes.
Available in two sizes, 28 and 18 liters, the Firn is geared for ultralight mountaineers and hot laps. The vest-style harness includes two stretch-mesh pouches perfect for soft flasks, gels, headlamps, or anything else you need at a moment’s notice, while the 28 liter also includes a stretch mesh pocket on the left hipbelt and a rope attachment on the right side. Both sizes also include the innovative Ski Lasso, allowing you to slide your skis into the loop on the back of the pack, and strap them down, all without removing the pack from your back. The Firn also includes a dedicated crampon pocket that’s reachable without removing the pack, and is also the perfect size for skins, a water bottle, or other quick-access gear you need for the day.
The 28 liter Firn utilizes a cinch top closure with a flap to keep the elements out, which can also double as helmet carry, and includes a dedicated avalanche pocket underneath. The Firn 18 uses two zip pockets, one for avalanche gear against the back, and has a deployable helmet net. Both sizes include two tool attachments, and two loops for A-frame style ski carry.
